On Friday 1st April we held a BINGO Night and Raffle in support of local NGO ABCs and Rice. In their own words “ABCs and Rice offers free education, nutrition and healthcare to the impoverished children of Siem Reap Cambodia in the Sala and Kroligne Village areas. It is a safe-haven for children otherwise exposed to child labour, abuse or worse.
Families struggle through overbearing poverty; and in attempts to get at least some of their children an education, they often leave one or more children home to work. ABC’s works closely with the village chief and key community members to target those most in need, and offers a hand up.
ABCs and Rice differs to most NGO schools in Siem Reap. In addition to providing a much-needed free education in English and Khmer, we offer various food programs to nourish the children’s bodies as well as their minds.”
ABCs and Rice collected lots of lovely BINGO prizes to go with our great list of regular raffle prize sponsors to make a fab, prize filled evening! Our long collected bottle caps acted as BINGO markers on our reused sheets throughout the evening, with a fun few rounds of rock and rock (music) BINGO in the middle. Many thanks to Charlie for hosting the event and to everyone who came along and joined us for the evening; we hope you were lucky and won a prize! Special thanks to all of the sponsors; we couldn’t hold the fundraising events without support. US$225.00 was raised for ABCs and Rice and will be well used. As with all of our fundraisers all entrance fees, raffle ticket sales and any donations are collected entirely for the NGO.
